Possibly my favorite drummer on the scene, Motown native Karriem Riggins works in both realms of jazz and hip/hop, striking an unusual balance that has allowed him to work with the likes of Herbie Hancock as well as Madlib. Riggins combines a traditional jazz finesse with technical prowess that complements the hard-hitting hip hop bounce, an amalgam of sounds that are inherent to the city of Detroit.
